Hi`ialakai Plan of the Day

PLAN OF THE DAY
NOAA SHIP HI'IALAKAI (R334)

Date: Sept 24, 2004 (Friday)

Night Ops. (Sept 23, 2004)
Conduct station "Laysan" CTD located at 25/34.0 N and
171/32.0 W.  After cast, continue transiting to Laysan
Island.

0730 - Launch HI-1 (10m) for REA work, HI-2 (8m) for
moorings, HI-3 (19' Safe Boat) for tow boarding, and
HI-5 (Zodiac) for outreach near 25/46.5 N and 171/45.1
W.

REA Team - Will visit sites 5, R9, and R12.

Mooring Team - Will walk the island surf zone around to
the southeast area to recover one of the STR's.

TOW Team - TOW operations around the island.

Outreach Team - HI-5 will shuttle Dan, Sue, Daniel, and
Stephani to the field camp on Laysan Island.  HI-5 will
then shuttle several personnel from the field camp back
to the ship for a tour.  Afterwards, return the
visitors to shore and return the outreach team back to
the ship.
IMPORTANT - The cox'n of the Zodiac can not go ashore.
He must remain with the boat.

1630 - Stagger the recovery of boats near the launch
site.  HI-5 should be back at 1600, followed by HI-1 at
1625, then HI-2 at 1635, and HI-3 at 1645.

Night Ops
1800 - 0000 Conduct 4 to 6 TOAD stations around Laysan.
0000 - 0600 Conduct 2 CTD's east and west of Laysan in
            > 500 m water.

0600 Begin transiting to Pearl and Hermes.

Movies for this evening: (Both will start at 1730 and
again at 2000.)
